In traveling all over the world, we wonder, have we done more harm or more good to the communities we visit?
Tourism often provides a source of much-needed funds to local people. But, as in the case of Easter Island, it also fundamentally changes the nature of the community being visited. There used to be two flights a week full of tourists descending on this island. Now there are two a day, plus lots of visitors from cruise ships.
At what point does a place become so overwhelmed with tourists that tourism needs to be limited, instead of encouraged?
