Red Notice Books A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man's Fight for Justice
: Bill Browder : February 2015
What would living in the US be like if the government was run by the mafia? Think about that and you’ll have some idea of what living in Russia is like now. Red Notice is a truly worthwhile read. Not only is it a gripping story, but you’ll also learn about investing in countries like Russia (Don’t!), an absolutely bizarre scam used to give a criminal syndicate the largest tax refund in Russian history, and how laws are passed in the US.
The Russian tax scam is fascinating for a number of reasons. It is so involved, that you wonder why those behind it didn’t find a simpler way to steal large sums. Our suspicion is that this crazy plot was really a plan B developed in desperation after the normal corporate extortion failed. What makes it all the crazier is that since all the money in the Russian government is basically controlled by Putin and Russian organized crime, it was basically stealing from one group of criminals to benefit another; moving money from one pocket to another.
We still live in a time when many people live in governments run by stone cold evil people. How evil is Putin? He retaliated against the US in this case by preventing Americans from adopting sick Russian orphans.
